Can I transfer my existing UK pension scheme to Kota?

Depending on who's your current pension scheme provider, Kota offers you two options.

  • Smart Pension

If you're already working with Smart Pension, we can import your current scheme, so you start managing it through Kota. Your pension scheme won't suffer any changes during this process.

Simply log in to your Kota account, go to the Benefits page, and select 'Auto-Enrol Pension'. Then, click on the 'Import' option and follow the steps required. You'll need to define a billing entity (if you haven't done so yet), make Kota an adviser on your existing Smart Pension account, and then import your employees to our platform.

  • Other providers

We can mediate a pension switch from your provider to Smart Pension. Please note: This is not a full pension scheme transfer. With a pension switch, we can assist you in stopping working with your current provider and moving to Smart Pension to start having your scheme contributions managed by Kota and Smart Pension. Any funds accumulated up to the present will still stay with your previous provider. It's only the new contributions that will be sent into Smart Pension.

If you're interested in proceeding with a pension switch, you can do so from your Kota account. On the Benefits page, click on 'Auto-Enrol Pension', and then select 'Switch your scheme to Smart Pension' and follow the steps indicated. Please ensure that you have all relevant information at hand, such as the membership list of your current pension scheme and who your company's signatories are. You'll then have to wait for Smart Pension's reply to your request, which is normally 1-2 working days. The overall process will differ based on your company's size, as organisations with more than 50 employees will have to go through a consultation period of 60 days before being able to switch.

If you would also want to transfer the funds from your previous provider to Smart Pension (ie, to consolidate the funds), this is something you'll have to manage directly between your previous provider and Smart Pension.
